Darts average calculator

Calculate a three-dart average from a total score and number of darts, or use the X01 mode with a starting and remaining score.

How to calculate a darts average

A standard darts average is normally shown as a three-dart average. Divide the total points scored by the number of darts thrown, then multiply the result by three.

Three-dart average(points scored ÷ darts thrown) × 3

Example: a 501 leg in 18 darts

Finishing 501 in 18 darts produces an average of 83.50. The calculation is 501 divided by 18, multiplied by three.

Leg average versus match average

A leg average measures one leg. A match average combines the points and darts from every completed and unfinished leg in the match. A match average should therefore be calculated from total points and total darts, not by averaging separate leg-average percentages.

Do bust darts count?

Yes. Darts thrown during a bust visit still count as darts thrown, even though the score for that visit returns to the value at the start of the turn. That is why a match scorer should calculate averages from the recorded darts and valid scoring outcome of each visit.

What is a first-nine average?

The first-nine average uses only the first nine darts of a leg. It measures scoring performance before the checkout phase has a large effect. Ocheflow can show first-nine statistics during supported X01 matches.

Frequently asked questions

Is a darts average measured per dart?

The headline average used in darts is usually a three-dart average. The calculator also shows the average per individual dart.

Can I calculate an unfinished leg?

Yes. Choose X01 mode, enter the starting score, remaining score and number of darts already thrown.

Does a missed double reduce the average?

Yes. A missed double adds another dart without adding points, so the average drops.

Should I average several leg averages?

No. For an accurate match average, combine all points scored and all darts thrown, then calculate from those totals.
